Turn in either direction out of the Barn at Oak Tree farm and you’ll be spoilt for choice. With walks direct from the doorstep and wall to wall views, this is such a pretty area. Cycling is extremely popular here, being stage to the Tour de France and the annual Tour de Yorkshire.
Travel to Aysgarth to see the waterfalls or visit Hawes and its quirky shops and cafés, not forgetting to stop off at the famous Wensleydale Creamery. In the opposite direction you will pass the picturesque village of Middleham and its famous castle, enjoy the sights as the race horses’ ride to and from the gallops each day, or sit it in the village square and enjoy a coffee as you watch the world go by.
A little further and you will reach the bustling market town of Leyburn with its host of interesting shops, restaurants and cafés, all set around the market square, and of course Friday is market day and a good chance to snap up some of the gorgeous local produce. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Adjacent to the village green in the picturesque village of Redmire, with views across to Penhill, this spacious, semi-detached and very well-equipped cottage offers a high level of comfort and gives that home from home feeling. For guests bringing their four-legged friends, the owner has provided a dog bed, bowls, throws, towels and doggie treats.
In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, this lovely picture perfect village has country walks and some spectacular views over Lower Wensleydale. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are some superb walking and cycling trails available direct from the door, making this a perfect base from which to explore the pretty Dales villages. Try the circular walk from Redmire to Aysgarth taking in both the Redmire Falls and spectacular Aysgarth Falls, Castle Bolton where Mary Queen of Scots was held in the 16th century, Preston-under-Scar, the River Ure and Penhill, passing through the beautiful Dales countryside.
The village pub has now fully reopened after a complete revamp in 2023, and provides, amongst other things, a variety of local beers and delicious breakfasts, snacks and pub grub, and its only 20 yards from the back door. A fish & chip van comes on a Wednesday at 7.30pm - if you like fish & chips these are a must!
Nearby are the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn with their many shops, pubs, restaurants and craft workshops, where craftsmen display their skills and sell handmade products. For groceries, Leyburn is 4 miles away and has convenience stores as well as an award-winning delicatessen and winery. Fresh eggs are available in the village and newspapers can be provided at the nearby farm. All the big supermarkets regularly deliver to the village.
Historical castles and ruins are numerous with Bolton Castle almost on the doorstep, and Middleham Castle a few miles away. From Middleham square you can sit and watch the impressive sight as the race horses pass through on their way to the gallops. The Forbidden Corner is just down the road with its labyrinth of tunnels and underground caves to explore. With so much to do and see, you will certainly want to return.

Set in the hamlet of Starbotton in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this Grade II listed, end of terrace cottage dates back to 1663. As such, it has been sympathetically refurbished and makes a quiet retreat from busy everyday life. It enjoys a south-facing spacious garden with the added benefit of soft fruit beds from which guests are welcome to help themselves in season. To make your stay as comfortable as possible dressing gowns and hairdryers are provided, and for entertainment there are a number of board games and garden games to try out. The nearby town of Grassington is 9 miles and in summer plays host to an incredible arts festival where you will find famous singers, presenters, poets and musicians. In winter there is a Dickensian festival, a magical event where the town is transported back in time with shopkeepers, villagers and visitors dressing in Victorian costume. A little further afield lies the bustling market town of Skipton with its Norman castle standing proudly at the head of it wide, sweeping, cobbled high street. Alternatively kick back in the local pub, 200 yards, which serves food and local ales. The nearby village of Kettlewell, approximately 2 miles away boasts three pubs, tea rooms, a village shop and various events during year including The Scarecrow Festival. Set in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this cottage lies at the end of a row, towards the western end of the edge of the well-known village of West Witton, which has a pub serving great food, Carefully furnished and decorated throughout, it offers well-appointed accommodation in an ideal location for walking, touring or cycling. The bustling market town of Leyburn is just 4 miles, where you will find a selection of individual country shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants, together with the largest auction house in England. Hawes, another market town and home to the famous Wensleydale Creamery is 13 miles away. For those interested in history and architecture, Middleham Castle, Bolton Castle and Jervaulx Abbey are all less than 10 miles away. For family fun, book tickets for the Forbidden Corner (a 4-acre garden with follies, statues and labyrinths), which is a treat for all ages. The popular Polar Express train ride is also close by. You enter the property down the gated pathway into the entrance hall and this leads to the living area which is a lovely comfortable space where you can kick back and relax in front of the feature electric fire which, with the full central heating, will keep you warm on the colder evenings. A door from the living area leads you onto the delightful patio area, which is a sun trap throughout the day, perfect to enjoy a drink alfresco or you morning coffee.
On the same floor you have a well-presented, well-equipped kitchen which has plenty of room for food preparation should you not wish to dine at the many superb eateries close by. Spread across the second floor are two good sized double bedrooms and a single which is perfect for a child. There is a lovely family bathroom which boosts a shower over the bath.
The nearby village of Silsden has all local amenities within walking distance of the cottage or a few minutes in the car. The market town of Skipton is close by, also known as ‘The Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales’, which is a great day out, with a tempting selection of bars and restaurants, a medieval castle and bustling street markets. You can also take a stroll along the Leeds and Liverpool canal that runs through, or simply watch the barges chug past. Brontë Country is also nearby, offering wonderful walking routes across the moors and for those keen on cycling, why not try a section of the Tour de France route that runs nearby. A 15-minute drive away is also the lovely town of Ilkley and its famous Ilkley Moor and delightful parks with walks along the River Wharfe and famous local tea rooms. For a more relaxing way to explore the area, hop on the Worth Valley Steam Train from Keighley Station, which takes you on a 5-mile journey through the Haworth moors and on to Oxenhope along the line where the Railway Children was filmed. Golf is available nearby.

Spice Mill Cottage is just off the main square of Kirkby Lonsdale, where there is a traditional market held every Thursday. The south Lake District is only a 20 minute drive away and offers attractions such as the South Lakes Safari Zoo, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Lakes Aquarium, Lakeland Motor Museum and Holker Hall Gardens- this is all before you reach Windermere Lake! 25 minutes south on the M6 and you are in the Historic City of Lancaster or by the seaside town of Morecambe.
